When I look through the camera
lens and see into the hope of
the animals at the shelter I am
constantly reminded of why I
continue to volunteer as a
photographer. How it came to be
was a morning just like this
one, sitting in front of the
computer watching the weekend
facebook status roll by and then
there was this request for a
photographer with the
Roanoke Valley SPCA. My love
for animals and photography
rolled into one. |

I jumped at the chance and have
been enjoying the break from a
normal work week ever since. I
still keep my day job but just
take a long lunch once a week to
do jeans and a t-shirt to spend
time with the animals. It is the
best part of my week.
All the dogs of my childhood and
now my own as an adult have
always been rescue dogs.
Currently, we have a mixed breed
Schnerrier (Miniature Schnauzer
and Irish Terrier – we think)
named Zoe that keeps us on our
toes. |

Seeing the hope and love in the animals at
the Shelter gives me so much in return. My
payment comes when I see the animals find
their forever homes. |
